Patriarchal Walnut Tree Arrives at Rare Earth Hardwoods

Rick Paid, President and owner of Rare Earth Hardwoods, has secured the reclamation of the largest American Walnut (Juglans Nigra) he has seen in his lifetime. This tree was slated to be removed for a construction upgrade at a schoolyard frequented by Rick in his youth. Reports Rick, "This tree was huge when I was a kid and I used to play around it. By the time I was old enough to drive, this tree became a landmark for other activities and holds many memories, a real storehouse of history. I was fortunate to be contacted by the excavator of the impending removal of this mammoth specimen, as it fits within our mission of infrastructure log reclamation and use. Thank you to Kal Excavating for contacting us with the opportunity to acquire a special tree."

This tree is destined to be sawn into thick slabs, the amount of crotch figures promises to be exquisite. Sign up today to be on the first list offering for the unique slabs to be generated from this monster.

Birdseye Maple Cabinets

Karen Smith writes, "Our Birdseye Maple cabinets are special not only for their beauty, but also for their uniqueness. When the sun shines in our kitchen window, the natural luster of the wood jumps out and grabs you. Depending on the light, the cabinets appear to change colors and have different looks at different times of the day. Everyone who visits our home, comments on the fact that they have never seen cabinets made with Birdseye Maple. They rave at the beauty of the wood. I would like to give Mike DeCaire kudos by complimenting him on his fine craftsmanship. He takes a great deal of pride in his craft, and he is amazing at what he does."

Door/Millwork Production

Rare Earth Hardwoods has put two refurbished Porter Heavy Duty shapers into service for door/millwork production. Tucker Darby, REH Door/Millwork Specialist, has tooled these shapers with the latest Freeborn braised carbide profiles. Judging from the glass smooth profile work and the beaming smile from Mr. Darby, good 'ol American iron can still carry the day.

Tucker's current project is 13 custom doors. The doors are stave core constructed with Brazilian Cherry overlay. The commission design is reminiscent of the Arts & Craft movement from the early decades of the 20th century.

Custom Trim

Mark Martin, owner of Perfect Miter in Traverse City, MI writes, "I have been doing business with Rare Earth Hardwood's owner, Rick Paid, for more than 25 years. Considering the vast inventory of hundreds of species at Rare Earth Hardwoods, and the incredible quantities of lumber of each species, once the initial species for a particular project is chosen, one can select the perfect boards. Matching grains and colors for ultimate jointery from such selections is routine for my business. For my customers, a visit to the showroom itself is an inspiring and breath taking experience! Rare Earth Hardwoods also performs custom milling, re-saw, jointing, and sanding services." www.perfectmiter.net (231) 334-0806
